Facial Artery Myomucosal (FAMM) Flap

2017
The facial artery myomucosal (FAMM) flap is an effective means for reconstructing defects in and around the oral cavity. Such defects may be the result of trauma, excision of neoplasm, or other. Smaller defects may generally be closed with local tissue. The flap is an axial-patterned flap based on the facial artery and taken from the inner aspect of the cheek. It may be based superiorly or inferiorly. The flap should be designed such that the donor site may be closed primarily. The major complications are related to eventual wound healing and flap viability.
