Recycling and design for environment of automotive electrical and electronic systems - SEES Project

2006
This paper presents interim results from the SEES project (Sustainable Electrical and Electronic Systems for the Automotive Sector) which is being developed under the EU Sixth Framework Programme with partners from research and industry. The project covers the entire life cycle of automotive electrical and electronic systems (EES). Its main objective is to develop sustainable, clean, cost- and eco-efficient EES prototypes and dismantling / recycling processes to increase the vehicle recovery / reuse rate where appropriate. In order to achieve this target, different tasks have been implemented keeping the EES life cycle perspective. This includes assembly, disassembly, shredding and recycling studies to optimise the EES end-of-life processes. These studies are accompanied by environmental and economic assessments, development of software tools and eco-design guidelines which pave the way for new EES concept / prototypes to be developed within the SEES project (A).
