IMMUNOMODULATORY ACTIVITY OF PANCHGAVYA

2012
Panchgavya (PG) is combination of five major substances obtained from cow that includes cow dung, urine, milk, curd and ghee. All these five products of PG have been claimed to possess medicinal properties against several disorders such as renal disorders, arthritis, hyperlipidemia, immunosuppression and stress. In the present study PG obtained from CCRAS, New Delhi was evaluated for immunomodulatory activity in albino rats. PG was administered orally at the dose rate of 50 mg per rat for 30 consecutive days. The experiment was designed in different groups of rats consisting six rats in each group including control and various treatments. The immunomodulatory activity of Panchgavya was evaluated on the basis of cell mediated immune responses like neutrophil adhesion test (percent) and absolute lymphocyte count (per cumm of blood); and also by humoral immune response such as serum gamma globulin conc. (g/dl). The study indicates immunomodulatory activity of Panchgavya on cyclophosphamide induced immunosuppression as evidenced by cell mediated and humoral immune responses.
