Test of radioactivity distribution measurement techniques on the surface of buildings

The measurement and assessment of low-level residual radioactivity on the buildings and soil surrounding the buildings would be required before the dismantlement of a commercial nuclear power plant. Fast and accurate radioactivity measurement techniques are necessary for this purpose. Nuclear Power Engineering Corporation (NUPEC) has been conducting a verification test of residual radioactivity measurement and assessment techniques for buildings and soil sponsored by the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) of Japan since 1990. Radioactivity distribution measurement techniques are involved in this verification test. This paper mainly describes the results of the fundamental test for the techniques.
