EVALUATION OF THE EFFECT OF CHEMICAL MEDIUM ON PBO FIBER STRENGTH WITH WEIBULL METHOD

The statistical strength and distribution of 5cm PBO single fiber treated with six different chemical (mediums) were researched based on Weibull/weakest-link model. The results were compared with the untreated PBO fiber, and the surface of the fiber was analyzed by SEM. The results show that acidic mediums have more effects on the strength and distribution of PBO fiber, and the break mechanisms are different between treatments by HCl and by H_2SO_4.
