In the Leadership Steps of Anton Semyenovitch Makarenko

This article examines aspects of A. S. Makarenko's style of leadership through an historical retrospective of his work and writing. His use of personal charisma as well as groupwork, shared adversity and delegation techniques as leadership methods is discussed. The ethos perpetuated by his disciplined and regimented approach to his charges does seem outdated in' today's climate, and a search of the literature pertaining to the leadership role and function reveals some current opposition to a charismatic style.
