Tibetan refugee in India: observations in the field of health.

2004
The Tibetan refugee in India grudgingly preserve their culture and traditional way of life even though the new situation they are required to face here call for new adjustments to be made by them. It cannot be said that they have been particularly successful in doing this because there are certain areas where the new environmental and socio-economic features differ markedly from those prevailing in Tibet and on which they have absolutely no control. In addition the extreme love for their own tradition and an inclination to continue their old habits create some difficulties for the migrant Tibetans in India. This is particularly noticeable in their health and health related behaviours. The paper aims at examining the advantages and disadvantages intrinsic to be a Tibetan refugee in India the observations being limited to the sphere of health. (authors)
