Evidence of coupling between toroidal Alfvén eigenmodes and kinetic Alfvén waves

Abstract A 60 GHz microwave scattering system was used to search for kinetic Alfven waves when toroidal Alfven eigenmodes were excited by the energetic hydrogen ions produced during ion cyclotron resonance heating in the tokamak fusion test reactor (TFTR). Scattering signals from the expected location with the correct frequencies and wave wavelengths were observed. These data are presented as the first evidence for the coupling between toroidal Alfven eigenmodes and kinetic Alfven waves.
