Ethno-medicinal Plants of Chambal Valley of District Etawah (UP)

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Remote Sensing (RS) have become an important tool in modern animal disease control. Geographical data in digital form is now widely available but its accessibility is still limited by the high cost involved. However, as time is passing out, the cost will definitely come down with increased use of Global Positioning Systems (GPS) and satellite imagery. GIS software are now available along with appropriate extension tools/software making the GIS suitable for advanced spatial analysis. Further, the realization of applicability and useful of GIS and RS in various fields has now convinced the stakeholders that without the use of these technologies it is not possible to attain the envisaged goals. Now information systems on diseases and pathogens, biodiversity, management of productivity of plant and animal are being developed which incorporates GIS as a source of various types of spatial data to be used for various simulations, risk assessment as well as for production of maps. Although RS and GIS have been employed for decades for animal diseases surveillance, prediction and intervention programs, its use in plant disease and pests is limited. Further, awareness of RS and GIS is low as application of RS and GIS in animal and plant sciences in developing countries is a recent phenomenon. However, now the use of GIS/RS is plant sciences is picking up as has been exemplified in this paper. However, to promote increased awareness and use of RS/GIS in plant sciences will require multilateral assistance in the training of personnel and equipping of RS/GIS units not only in plant science research laboratories but also in the field.
