Barrier Free Mobility - Alberta's Experience

This paper explores the jurisdictional authority of the three tier governmental structure and private initiatives involved in the development of policy and service delivery of transportation services for people with disabilities in Canada. Specific objectives of the paper include: provide a strategic overview of the Canadian perspective regarding transportation and disability; discuss the influence that the Canadian perspective may have on the further development of policy for the province of Alberta; discuss existing service and funding programs in Alberta; provide a strategic overview of provincial policy on barrier free transportation including policy objectives and directions; and discuss future directions and initiatives of the province, specifically their department, Alberta Transportation and Utilities.
