Congenital Pigment Formation

1977
To the Editor. This figure shows an 8-month-old infant who has a congenital pigment formation in the shape of a deer track. It is not a nevus in the usual sense of the word, but seems to be outlined by the pale ventral median stripe and by a medial extension of the familiar pigment-border that is often found on the arm. The baby's family history is not available, so we have no unsuperstitious explanation of the anomaly. Although I have seen several clear and definite deer tracks and many vague and imperfect ones in pediatric practice, I have neither heard of a name for this mark nor read a description of it; and my favorite dermatologist could not say much more. We would appreciate information from your staff; and if any mystery remains, we hope that you can publish the photograph for comment from your readers.
