A Dual Polarization MIMO Antenna Array Decoupling Based on Meta-Surface

2019
In this paper, a dual polarization MIMO antenna array is designed, which consists of two microstrip patch antennas. Each antenna is fed by two orthogonal coaxial probes to implement dual polarization MIMO antenna array. Edge-to-edge distance between the two microstrip patch antennas is 8 mm, which might have a tightly mutual coupling between the MIMO antenna elements. To enhance the isolation, a meta-surface integrated into the substrate in the MIMO antenna array is proposed to reduce the mutual coupling. From the simulation results, it can be demonstrated that the MIMO antenna array can operate at about 2.41 GHz for lower band WLAN applications. The isolation between the MIMO antenna array is better than -20dB, while the radiation patterns of the proposed antenna is not affected by the meta-surface.
