Nosocomial infection in cancer hospital: investigation and analysis of 1000 inpatients.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the incidence,distribution and risk factors of nosocomial infection for cancer inpatients,in order to take preventive measures to control the nosocomial infection.METHODS From Jan to Dec in 2007,the 1000 cases with nosocomial infection from the total of 20694 tumor inpatients were investigated retrospectively and monitored prospectively and statistically analyzed.RESULTS The nosocomial infection rate was 4.83%.The lower respiratory infection ranked the first and the next were upper respiratory tract,surgical superficial incision,urinary tract,thoracic cavity and gastrointestinal tract.Fungi and Gram-negative bacteria were the main pathogens.The incidence of nosocomial infection in the hematology department,geriatric department and cadre health care department was the higher in all internal medicine divisions.The incidence of nosocomial infection in the department of thoracic surgery was highest in all surgery divisions.CONCLUSION In order to reduce the incidence of nosocomial infection in cancer patients,improving the patient′s immunity,making an accurate diagnosis of nosocomial infection as soon as possible,observing the aseptic technique operation strictly,standardizing medical practice and rationally administrating antibiotics are all important.
