A method of fabricating an organic light emitting diode and organic light emitting diode

In one embodiment, the method for producing an organic light-emitting diode is arranged and comprising the steps of: A) providing a metal foil (2) (as the substrate for the organic light-emitting diode 1), C) generating an inorganic electrically insulating protective layer (3) directly to a substrate upper surface (20) of the metal foil (2), wherein the protective layer (3) as the main constituent material of the metal foil (2), so that subsequently preferably no exposure of the metal foil (2 ) (of the protective layer 3) is carried out, and D) forming an organic layer sequence (5) with a light-generating region (50) between two flat electrodes (4, 6) on the upper substrate side (20), wherein at least one of the electrodes (4, 6) provide, directly (on the protective layer 3) is applied and by means of the protective layer (3) of the metal foil (2) is electrically insulated.
