Heat transfer characteristics of Rutherford-type superconducting cables in pressurized He II

1999
The heating induced by beam-loss in superconducting cables must be absorbed by pressurized He II through the cable insulation in operation of the LHC accelerator superconducting magnets. As a fundamental study, the heat transfer characteristics through the insulated cable to pressurized He II were measured in case of "Rutherford" type compacted strand cables. This report describes the experimental results and discusses possible heat transfer models.
