Who Goes Where - How, When and Why?

1975
Transport, i.e. the movement of people and goods, has real benefits to individuals and society as a whole. Because of this it will continue to grow. Technology develops in response to need, thus the city form tends to be an expression of societies composite objectives not the consequence of technological development which is merely the enabling force. Individual transport has such overwhelming advantages as to ensure its continuing and increasing predominance in metropolitan areas. Future emphasis will be on eliminating the undesirable features of the motor car with the objective of achieving maximum benefits. City form will adapt slowly, the rate of change of both cities and transport technology depends upon overall economics. Good land use planning coupled with intelligent pricing and a minimum distortion of market place forces will enable quicker achievement of community objectives.
