This literature review aims to develop an overview on the use of plants in the history of medicine from the most remote civilizations to the present day. There is a need for the acquisition of knowledge about herbal medicine and pharmacological interactions, especially in areas such as Anesthesiology and Surgery, and quality control of the products consumed in the form of nutritional supplements.
