Numerical Evaluation and Experimental Study of Energy Saving Device-Propeller Boss Cap Fins

In this paper,energy saving effect of the propeller boss cap fins is evaluated with viscous CFD numerical simulation and the model test method.The numerical tool CFD is used to study energy saving mechanism,mutual effect between propeller and PBCF,as well as the influence of Reynolds number to the energy saving effect in detail.Results show that: only taking account of the hub/PBCF/blade as a whole system,could the energy saving effect be analyzed quantitatively.The influence of PBCF to the thrust of entire system is very little while torque is decreased significantly,which makes the efficiency increase.It is also shown that with the Reynolds number in full scale,energy saving effect of PBCF calculation is higher,and this indirectly validates that the energy saving effect of real ship is better than that of model ship.
