Abstract 14155: The Wavelet Transform of Pulse Wave and Electrocardiogram Improves Accuracy of Blood Pressure Estimation in Cuffless Blood Pressure Measurement

2016
Introduction: Cuffless blood pressure (BP) measurement has several advantages over the conventional cuff-type BP measurement. One of these advantages is monitoring BP without causing the patient any pain. Currently, most of the cuffless BP apparatus utilize only pulse transit time (PTT) to estimate BP; however, this estimation formula showed poor accuracy. Hypothesis: We hypothesize that the shape of the pulse wave and electrocardiogram contains information related to BP estimation. Methods: A small sensor module was originally developed, which can be used to measure the pulse wave, electrocardiogram, and PTT, with the sensor being held in both hands by the patient. Data from 127 participants were collected at the University of Fukui Hospital and its affiliated institutions. Each participant provided written informed consent. We also measured BP by using the cuff-type method for reference. In addition to the conventional PTT-based BP estimation algorithm, we added two key components to develop the new est...
