The research of zero level emission vehicle using gasoline engine:efficient method for using the hybrid catalyst and EHC

2000
Abstract The subjected technology was developed to achieve almost complete elimination of exhaust gas emissions and achieved results below 1/10 of the California ULEV standard by applying the Three-Stage-Emission-Management-System. An overview of this system was introduced in a previous paper [1]. In this paper, efficient methods to use the hybrid catalyst and electrical heated catalyst (EHC) utilized in this system are described. These methods include controlling the desorption timing, lowering the heat capacity and optimizing the surface area of EHC, and selectively using catalysts according to the desorbed HC components. 30% reduction of the electric power consumption can be achieved by these methods.
