The invention relates to the field of lithium ion battery materials, in particular to the dry gaseous oxidation preparation of spherical cobalt-coated nickel hydroxide. The dry gaseous oxidation preparation of the spherical cobalt-coated nickel hydroxide comprises the following steps of: adding the spherical cobalt-coated nickel hydroxide into an oxidizer, stirring the spherical cobalt-coated nickel hydroxide and raising temperature; adding caustic soda liquid in an amount of 1 to 10 percent based on the weight of the spherical cobalt-coated nickel hydroxide into the oxidizer, and introducing an oxidizing gas; performing oxidation reaction at 50 to 100 DEG C; and after the oxidation reaction is finished, performing size mixing, lithium leaching, solid-liquid separation, washing and drying to obtain the product. The dry gaseous oxidation preparation of the spherical cobalt-coated nickel hydroxide has the advantages that: 1, a process flow is simple, and an oxidation degree is easily controlled; 2, a coating is stably oxidized, and the tap density of the product is high; and 3, the prepared spherical cobalt-coated nickel hydroxide product has high electrochemical performance, high capacity, a good discharge platform, a low self-discharge rate and long cycle life.
