A process for the regeneration of a membrane wall in a distillation apparatus in which a distillation apparatus with one or more evaporation and condensation stages is provided, each evaporation and condensation stage comprises at least one liquid-conducting flow channel which is at least partially bounded by a vapor-permeable and liquid-tight membrane wall, wherein emerging from the liquid vapor passes through the membrane wall, characterized in that the liquid is removed from the at least one flow channel, wherein the membrane wall surrounded on both sides after removal of the liquid from the distillation apparatus of a gas atmosphere, but is still wetted with liquid, and the membrane wall wetting liquid by the membrane wall surrounding gas atmosphere is adjusted such that the partial pressure of liquid in the gas atmosphere low is removed, is defined as the vapor pressure of the membrane wall-wetting liquid.
