I.D.S. RIS system - A new surface penetrating radar for non destructive investigation

1998
Surface Penetrating Radar (S.P.R.) is a well-known non destructive technique suitable for the location of objects beneath the earth's surface or located within a structure. This kind of equipment is a particular realisation of ultra-wideband impulse radar technology and the technique embraces a range of specialisations such as radar system and antenna design, image processing, electromagnetic propagation in lossy media, etc. The I.D.S. RIS is an innovative, high performance S.P.R. equipment; it consists of a Field Acquisition Unit and a powerful Deferred Elaboration Unit and is an ideal instrument both for the specialised researcher and for the unskilled user. RIS Systems have been used by several ltalian companies since 1995 in a wide range of applications: in this paper a brief, interesting case history is presented.
