High purity biodegradable magnesium coating for implant application

2011
Abstract This paper describes efforts to create high purity Mg coating by Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) technique that is appropriate for implant applications and to improve the interaction between the implant and the biological environment. The in vitro and in vivo tests conducted with Mg coatings that consist of grains with controlled size demonstrated promising properties in terms of lower corrosion and acceptable foreign body reaction which makes them prospective as biodegradable metallic materials.
