TURP e prostatectomia a cielo aperto per ipertrofia prostatica benigna a confronto: valutazione uroflussometrica ed ecografia a distanza

2002
The authors compared TURP results with those of open prostatectomy for BPH through uroflowmetry and ultrasound. Of the 136 patients with symptomatic BPH, 104 underwent TURP and 32 open prostatectomy. The Qmax, the prostate volume and the post-voiding bladder residue (RVP) were assessed in all patients before the operation and one year later. The TURP patients were further divided by age into 3 subgroups and another 2 groups of patients of the same age were also formed (1 group of TURP patients and 1 group of patients who had undergone open prostatectomy). A statistically valid improvement in all analysed parameters (p < 0.0001) was noted in the 2 main groups of patients. A statistically significant difference (p < 0.05) for the post-operative Qmax and RVP was found in the 3 subgroups of TURP patients. Comparison of the 2 groups with the same age instead showed no significant differences. In the authors' experience TURP and open prostatectomy are equally effective, even though they have different indications of application.
