Preliminary Experimental Investigation of the Simple‐Source Theory of Jet Noise

Starting with the simple‐source theory of jet noise, an approximate relation between the radiated sound‐power spectrum and the jet‐pressure spectrum is derived. This relation is compared with 12‐oct band sound‐power levels and jet‐pressure levels measured during ground runup of a small turbojet engine, and the agreement between theoretical and measured values is encouraging.
