Information on the use of detonation nanodiamonds (DNDs) in biomedical applications is summarized. Literary and proprietary data on the preparation of DND conjugates with biologically active substances and the distribution of diamond nanoparticles in vivo are presented. Methods for adsorption and covalent immobilization of biologically active substances on the DND surface are considered. The main directions of development in the field of creating systems for the delivery of biologically active and medicinal substances based on DNDs are identified. Biomedical DND applications offer attractive combination of properties such as biocompatibility, capacity of creating functional particles with specific adsorption/conjugation of drugs and biomolecules, large specific surface, and stable fluorescence.
