Diagnosis and Management of Pseudomonas Associated Canine Otitis

2015
Otitis media and otitis externa was reported with symptoms of head shaking, rubbing or scratching of affected ear. Samples were collected aseptically and subjected for microbiological examination. Pseudomonas spp were found on culturing with highest sensitivity for Enrofloxacin in one dog but showed resistance in another case. Based on these findings a diagnosis of otitis media was made. The first case was managed medically with Enrofloxacin @ 5mg/kg whereas Amoxycillin/Sulbactam @ 20mg/kg, IM, s.i.d. in the second case for five days and other supportive therapies. Ear cleaning was done with Salicylic acid solution and Ofloxacin drops were instilled topically. Significant improvement was seen after five days of treatment.
