O USO DE IMAGENS DE SATÉLITE NA DEFINIÇÃO DE ÁREA DE ESTUDO: A EXPERIÊNCIA DO PROJETO PIRAHIBA NO AMAZONAS, BRASIL

2013
This paper presents a methodology for defining the study area in the vicinity of reservoir of the Balbina Hydroelectric developed by Project PIRAHIBA Federal University of Amazonas. In order to identify pilot communities representative of the local dynamics and contribute to the integrated management of water resources in the Amazon, this study was based on satellite images of medium resolution, the use of secondary data, provided by public institutions, and data primary generated in meetings with leaders and representatives of local organizations. It used still the Geographic Information System (GIS) and other geospatial technologies in the adaptation of images and data systematization. Thus, it is expected that this methodology can be replicated in places of large extent and difficult access such as the Amazon, thus becoming a powerful tool in the process of integrated management and the formation of a public database and georeferenced.
