Complications of Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery

2021
Although endoscopic sinus surgery techniques and technologies experienced rapid development over the past two decades, complications in endoscopic sinus surgery (ESS) are still being reported. Development in the field of sinus imaging (CT scan, MRI) and image guided systems helped in a greater comprehension of the anatomy of the nose, sinuses, and neighboring vital structures that reflected on the procedure’s results and safety. However, these advances do not replace the importance of a proper understanding of the anatomy of the sinuses, surgical steps, and surgeons training. It is essential for otolaryngologists aiming to perform endoscopic sinus surgery to have a thorough understanding of these complications and their management. This book chapter aims to describe the complications of endoscopic sinus surgery and how to manage them.
