Requirements for Power Stations Islanding Automation

The paper presents an analysis of islanding automation application for modern hydrocarbon based power stations connected to distribution power grids. The main features of power plants islanding with auxiliary loads and customer loads at 6–20 kV feeders are considered. It is shown that the results of transient conditions calculation for generator unit islanding sufficiently depends upon a variation of the load power. The regularities for the different grid circuits and conditions are revealed. The study includes the choice of emergency control automation for the islanded power grid part subject to ensure its load stability. Also, the requirements for the speed of unloading given the forced islanding of the power plant off the grid are developed.
