Teaching and learning for Malware in Mobile Security: A Case Study

2021
One of the significant elements in teaching and learning (T&L) is the capability of the educator to integrate the practical skills and hands-on part in their T&L.  Currently, many open-source tools can be used in teaching and learning (T&L). As for cybersecurity subjects specifically in teaching mobile security subject, practical skill is very important. Many studies showed that the combination of knowledge and skill is a good strategy in T&L. Hence, this paper presents a case study for malware analysis by using open-source tools. This is part of a module on mobile security subject. For this case study, students did malware analysis based on the attacks against mobile devices such as notebooks and tablets by using open-source security tools. As a result, the T&L provides the maximum impact and conducive learning. In the future, more open-source tools can be added to enrich the T&L experiences.
