SUMMARY Samples ofmilkfrom1501cowswithmastitis werenegative forCampylobacter jejuni. Thefaeces of74healthy Friesian cowswerescreened forC.jejuni: 13% of thesamples werepositive during thesummerwhenthecowswereonpasture, and 51% werepositive inthewinter whenthecowswerehoused. Positive samples contained onaverage 1x104campylobacters pergfaeces. Itisconcluded thatfaecal contamination rather thanudderinfection isthe meansbywhichcampylobacters entermilkandthereby infect man.
