IMPORTANCE OF DEVELOPMENT HIGHWAYS TO BALANCE GROWTH

1973
THE GROWING PROBLEM OF URBANIZATION AND ITS EFFECTS ON EXISTING HIGHWAY SYSTEMS AND THE ENVIRONMENT ARE CONSIDERED. POPULATION REDISTRIBUTION IN NORTH CAROLINA IS EXAMINED AND AN ARGUMENT FOR RURAL DEVELOPMENT IS OFFERED. BY FOCUSING ON THE NEED FOR TRANSPORTATION PLANNING, IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE DEVELOPMENT OF HIGHWAYS CAN BE AN EFFECTIVE TOOL IN ACHIEVING BALANCED RURAL-URBAN GROWTH. /AUTHOR/
