Template Synthesis of Binuclear Macrocyclic Ni II Complex on the Basis of Triethylenetetramine and Isophthalaldehyde

The reaction of nickel pivalate Ni9(OH)6(Piv)12(HPiv)4 (Piv is anion of pivalic acid) and triethylenetetraamine (L1) (Ni : L1 = 1 : 1) in MeCN with following addition of isophthalaldehyde (L2, L1 : L2 = 1 : 1) results in the formation of Ni2L(Piv)4 (I), containing new macrocyclic ligand L3 formed as a result of [2+2] condensation of L1 with L2. The new compound was characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements.
