The present invention discloses a method and apparatus for generating a video summary, there is provided a method for automatically generating a video summary, the method extracts the foreground motion in each video frame for the video recording, according to whether the association of two adjacent moving foreground save the associated video frame corresponding to a motion trajectory, to generate a corresponding video summary based on each trajectory.
