Correlation of histochemistry staining patterns of gastric cardiac adenocarcinoma to paracancerous intestinal metaplasia among the patients from high-incidence area in Henan province
2010
Aim:To characterize the histochemistry staining patterns of gastric cardiac adenocarcinoma(GCA) and paracancerous intestinal metaplasia(IM) among the patients at a high-incidence area for GCA in Henan Province.Methods:Alcianblue-periodic acid Schiff(AB-PAS) and high iron diamine-alcianblue(HID-AB) histochemical staining were performed on 70 specimens of GCA and their paracancerous IM.The correlation of histochemistry staining patterns of GCA to paracancerous IM was analyzed. Results:The detection rates of intestinal type, gastric type, mixed type and dry type GCA were 37.1%(27/70),5.7%(4/70),50.0%(35/70) and 7.1%(5/70),respectively.The detection rates for sulfuration type and non-sulfuration type GCA were 24.3%(17/70) and 75.7%(53/70),respectively.The detection rate of paracancerous IM in intestinal type GCA was significantly higher than that in non-intestinal type [57.7%(15/26) vs.27.3%(12/44),χ2=6.383,P=0.012],and the IM detection rate in sulfuration type GCA was significantly higher than that in non-sulfuration type GCA [64.7%(11/17) vs.30.2%(16/53),χ2=6.472,P=0.011].The sulfurated protein expression in GCA tissues did not show co-expression with paracancerous IM(Kappa=0.129,P=0.484).Conclusion:Paracancerous IM may be premalignant lesion of intestinal type GCA and sulfuration type GCA at a high-incidence area for GCA in Henan province.
