Emulsion generation using microchannel plates and 2.25 MHz ultrasonic vibrators

2010
The aim of this research is to realize a small continuous flow system with emulsification devices. This system is for the generation of sub-micron or nano size monodisperse emulsions. We have fabricated and evaluated a device which consists of a microchannel plate and an ultrasonic vibrating plate. The oscillating frequency was 2.25 MHz. We have succeeded in generating emulsions which have a diameter of 200 nm. This device can realize continuous flow system and those plates are easily stacked. We also designed the cross-sectional pattern of microchannel of ultrasonic device to increase the residence time effectively. As a result, we have succeeded in obtaining emulsions which have a diameter of 80 nm.
