The invention discloses a complete set of protection devices for an ultrahigh-speed DC (direct current) line on the basis of single-ended transient signals and a protection method thereof. The protection devices comprise a data acquisition module, a protection calculation module and a peripheral circuit module, wherein the data acquisition module comprises one or more signal conditioning circuit,and digital-to-analog converters are connected to each signal conditioning circuit; and the protection calculation module comprises a central processing unit and one or more caches connected with thecentral processing unit. By using the single-ended voltage and current signals of the circuit only instead of communication signals, the invention not only avoids the problem of protection misoperation caused by unreliable channels, but also saves the time for the transmission of signals on the opposite side through the communication channels, thereby accelerating the exiting motion of the protection; the invention overcomes the difficulties in recognizing the wave head of the traveling wave in the conventional protection of the traveling wave and has the advantages of simple calculation and reliable principle by using the protection criteria based on energy extraction; and because of the amplitude-frequency characteristics of the boundary of the DC line, the setting of the protection definite value remains unchanged no matter how long the DC line is, i.e., the setting work can be completed at one step, thereby greatly reducing the work load of protection personnel and field operators.
