Wideband Millimeter-Wave Endfire Antenna with Vertical Polarization for Next Generation Mobile Communication Systems

A millimeter wave (MMW) metasurface-coverd vertically polarized antenna with wideband endfire radiation is presented in this work. Firstly, by placing a magnetic dipole array into two dual-layer metasurfaces and loading vertical walls at two edges of the metasurfaces, vertically polarized endfire radiation in a wide band is realized. Then, according to the symmetry of the electric filed distribution between the metasurfaces, a metal ground is introduced and the antenna’s profile is reduced by half. The final designed planar antenna is able to radiate a vertically polarized endfire pattern in the frequency range of 27.8 $\sim$ 35.0 GHz.
