Jet Prediction Improvements for Powerplant Aerodynamic Integration

2011
This paper presents jet simulations of an aircraft-type coaxial nozzle-flow. Steady CFD simulations are undertaken in order to represent their effect on the jet flow behaviour. A related experimental campaign is set up for validation. The jet flow physics imposes thorough first-hand numerical settings, especially concerning the shock cell system developed in the nozzle near-exit region. Global good agreement is obtained between the wind-tunnel tests and the numerical study, with special attention to the mesh convergence and the turbulent injection conditions. This work aims at getting a better insight of a realistic coaxial jet flow, on the one hand to improve its steady prediction, and on the other hand as a necessary input for future turbulence-resolving (DES-based) computations.
