A Hybrid Antenna System for 5G-WLAN Customer Premise Equipment (CPE) Application

A hybrid antenna system for the fifth generation (5G) customer premise equipment (CPE) is proposed in this paper. Two different kinds of Antenna are used in this system, which consists of a multi-band monopole antenna for Sub-6G and a dual polarized antenna in package (AiP) for millimeter wave. The monopole antenna has three operating bands, among them, 2.4GHz and 5.2/5.8GHz are for WLAN, and 3.5GHz is 5G communication bands. In addition, a dual-polarized AiP is responsible for millimeter-wave at 26GHz to provide high-speed wireless access. The CPE with proposed antenna system can replace the existing optical modem, realizing internet access in the indoor scene, and making up for the shortcoming that the millimeter-wave base station is difficult to cover the indoor.
