Microstructure and Performance of Ti/TiC Composite Biocoating Prepared on TC4 Alloy via In-Situ Laser Synthesis

Ti/TiC composite bioccating was prepared on TC4 alloy with pre-placed graphite powder layer via in-situ laser synthesis so as to improve the wear resistance of the Ti alloy.The microstructure,micro-hardness,wear resistance,corrosion resistance and biocompatibility of assynthesized Ti/TiC compesite biocoating were evaluated.Results show that as-synthesized Ti/TiC composite biocoating is free of pores and cracks,and mainly consists of dendrites,possessing much higher micro-hardness and wear resistance than Ti alloy substrate.In the meantime,as-synthesized Ti/TiC composite biocoating possesses much better corrosion resistance and biocompatibility than the TC4 alloy substrate subjected to sand blasting.
