Brief : New real-time anticollision alarm improves drilling safety
1996
Collision-avoidance planning is ordinarly carried out before well spud and is therefore valid only to the planned trajectory. Once drilling begins, deviation from the plan invariably occurs that may not only increase subsurface collision risk, but also compromise the ability to maintain adequate quality control of rigsite anticollision computations. This paper presents a new anticollision computer application that incorporates a normal traveling-cylinder diagram into a real-time-data-acquisition system that perform traveling-cylinder calculations automatically in real time.
