ORNL Residential Reference House Energy Demand model (ORNL-RRHED). Volume 1. Overview and report summary

This report describes the use and structure of the ORNL Residential Reference House Energy Demand Model (RRHED). RRHED is a computer-based engineering-economic end-use simulation model which forecasts energy demand based on a detailed evaluation of how households use energy for particular appliances. The report is organized into four volumes. The first volume provides an overview of the modeling approach and gives a short summary of the material presented in the other three volumes. The second volume is a user reference guide which provides the details necessary for users of the model to run the code and make changes to fit their particular application. Volume 3 presents the basic theoretical rationale for the RRHED model structure. The last volume reports on the application of the model to the analysis of two different kinds of issues: one is the examination of conservation policy impacts and the other is the forecasting of electricity demand in a need for power assessment. The report has two major objectives. The first is to provide a reader with little background in end-use modeling with an introduction to how the RRHED model works.
