Revisão sistemática da prevalência de depressão na diabetes mellitus tipo 2

2015
The type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease that causes severe suffering and medical, psychological and social problems. Depression is a psychiatric disorder that has a high comorbidity wi th type 2 diabetes. Patients with clinical diagnosis of major depressive episode show diabetic symptoms more intensely than non- depressed patients. Comorbidity of depression in pa tients with type 2 diabetes is directly related to a poor prognosis of diabetes, impaired glycemic control, increased heal thcare costs and greater probability of hospitaliza tion and death. Thus, the aim of this study was to determine the pr evalence of depression in the type 2 diabetes melli tus from a systematic literature review. The search in PubMed virtual library of papers published in the XXI cent ury (in international medical journals with blind peer revi ew process) produced 14 articles describing primary data on the prevalence of depression in type 2 diabetes. Preval ence of depression in diabetic patients 2 in the sa mple of articles analyzed ranged between 2.6 % and 70 % (mean = 33.10 %). In all the articles analyzed, the prevalence of depression in diabetics was significantly higher than the prevale nce of depression in non-diabetics. The prevalence of depression in diabetic women was significantly higher than the pr evalence of depression in diabetic men. These findi ngs highlight the importance of attention to the psychiatric aspects of diabetic patients.
