Effect of Loud Noise Exposure on Endothelial Function of Aircraft Service Staff

2013
Objective To investigate the effect of loud noise exposure on endothelial function of the aircraft service staff. Methods The observation group consisted of 40 randomly selected aircraft service personnel. The control group consisted of 20 healthy male postgraduate students.Fasting blood sample was collected in the morning and immediately after loud noise exposure(100-130 dB).Von Willebrand factor(vWF) and soluble intercellular adhesion molecules 1(sICAM-1) were tested by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA).Flow mediated dilation(FMD) and carotid artery intima-media thickness(IMT) were checked in the resting state. Results Serum level of vWF and sICAM-1 in the observation group were significantly higher than those in the control group(P0.05).No difference was observed after loud noise exposure in the two groups.FMD was lower and IMT was higher(P0.05) in the observation group than that in the control group. Conclusion Loud noise exposure has a negative impact on endothelial function of air craft service staff.
