Manufacture of ceramic foam body

PURPOSE: To improve the pressure performance by cooling a plastic foam block which is the starting raw material of a ceramic foam body having a required external shape and dimension by a specified processing and which mechanically worked so as to form a filter of a Z flow. CONSTITUTION: In the method for manufacturing a continuous pore foam body 10 provided with a three-dimensional ceramic network structure 24 especially as a filter for a high temperature gas processing or as a catalyst supporting body whose starting material is a soft continuous pore plastic foam block 36 impregnated at least once with a ceramic suspension, freed of excess ceramic suspension, heated to a temperature below the melting point of plastic and then finally burnt off at the temperature at which ceramic sinters together, the plastic form blocks 36, 28, 38, 44 and 46 provided with the required external shape dimension are cooled and mechanically worked so as to form the filter of the Z flow provided with highly accurate longitudinal flow passages 14, 20, 32, 40 and 42.
