THE KEY ISSUES IN SELECTING SUPPLIERS OF LOCATION-BASED SERVICES. PUTTING THE "L" IN LOCATION-BASED SERVICES: RIGHT DATA, RIGHT TIME, RIGHT PLACE

2001
The article considers the question of accuracy in the business of location-based services for pinpointing static or mobile locations and the importance of selecting the best supplier of such data-provider services. It is considered that independence in a service provider is of value for the provision of experience and advice, something not always available from an exclusive distributor or data originator. Location-based services are considered covering mobile assets, static points of interest, dynamic data, and context maps. The importance of quality and accuracy in the provision of such service is emphasized whether in traffic flow and congestion data, road works location or petrol prices. Location-based data services should be considered on a basis of: presentation; medium; speed; quality; scale; content; currency; and price. (A) For the covering abstract see ITRD E109405.
