Modelling of fluid flow and filtration through woven fabrics

2010
Abstract: Fluid flow passing through a textile assembly is featured in numerous applications including resin impregnation for textile composites and phase separation in fluid filtration. Understanding the behaviour of fluid flow through fabrics of various geometries is essential in order to optimise the manufacturing process and to the design and engineering of intended products. Based on a recent study on textile filters for improved filtration, this chapter reports on the finite elelment (FE) simulation of liquid flow through different types of woven fabric architectures. Furthermore, this chapter reports the establishment of a robust model that incorporates the introduction of solid particles, their transport towards the filter and the capture and packing of such particles.
